FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Does
Nowtro Jukebox
come with any music?
No, no music is included. Nowtro
Jukebox is a program that uses music
from your own mp3 library to turn
your PC into a jukebox.
Q:
I use Winamp/iTunes/Limewire/etc to
play my music. Is
Nowtro Jukebox
compatible with these programs?
Yes, as long as your music is in mp3
format. When you are setting up
Nowtro Jukebox, you will have the option
to scan your computer for mp3 files.
This will find any mp3 files on your
hard drive, regardless of which other
programs you use to play them.
These files will not be moved or altered
in any way, so you can continue to use
other programs to play your music as you
normally would.
Q: Where did my mouse go?
Nowtro Jukebox runs in full-screen mode
and is operated by using your
keyboard/keypad. Your mouse will
not be visible while you are running the
software. As soon as you exit or
minimize the Nowtro Jukebox, your mouse
will reappear.
Q: How do I exit the jukebox/add a
user/pause/skip a song/change a
setting/etc.?
Just remember this: when you are
using the full-screen jukebox, you must
enter the Administrator ID Number to do
anything other than make a request.
This is really the only thing you need
to remember, so I will say it once
again: you must enter the
Administrator ID Number to do anything
other than make a request. The
Administrator ID Number is entered at
the normal log-in screen:

Q: Every time I enter my
Administrator ID Number it takes me to
the Administrator Panel. I just
want to make a request!
The Administrator ID Number is used to
access the Administrator Panel only.
If you are the administrator and you
would like to make requests, simply
create a normal 5-digit User ID for
yourself. This will have to be a
different number than the Administrator
ID Number.
Q: How does Nowtro Jukebox gather the
artist names and song titles for my mp3
files?
Rather than relying purely on ID3 tags
as many mp3 players do, Nowtro Jukebox
intelligently checks the ID3 tag of each
mp3 file for accuracy. This
includes comparing the ID3 tag to the
file name itself. If the ID3 tag
checks out, the song is added. If not,
the file will be added to a list of a
tracks which are "waiting to be
verified". Verifying the
information of these tracks is quick and
easy, and can be done at your leisure.
You only need to do this once for each
track list, and it will assure that your
mp3s are neatly organized.
Q: What are ID3 tags?
An ID3 Tags is basically a label
embedded within an mp3 file containing
information about that file: the name of
the artist, the song title, etc. Many
mp3 players uses this information to
organize your music.
Q: Why not just use the ID3 tags to
organize my music?
The problem with ID3 Tags is that they
often contain incorrect information:
they may have the wrong song title, a
misspelled artist name, or even the
wrong artist name all together. By
asking you to verify the information for
files whose ID3 tags do not match up to
the file names, Nowtro Jukebox assures
that your mp3s will be labeled
accurately.
Q: Which versions of Windows is
Nowtro Jukebox compatible with?
Nowtro Jukebox has been tested on
Windows XP and Windows 2000/NT. It
has not yet been checked for
compatibility with Windows 95, Windows
98/98se, or Windows Vista.
Q: What screen resolution should I use?
Nowtro Jukebox is compatible with
resolutions of 800x600 or higher.
Using either 800x600 or
1024x768 is strongly recommended.
Q: Where do I get the artist images?
Nowtro Jukebox makes it as simple as
possible to obtain artist images from
the web. From the Manage Track
Lists screen:
1. Highlight an artist.
2. In the Image Preview window, click
the "Choose Image" button and
select "From Web..."
3. Follow the instructions on the
screen.
If you already have the artist's image
on your computer, selected "From Hard
Drive..." in Step 2 above and navigate
to the file.
Q: How did this software come about?
"I began working on Nowtro Jukebox
in August of 2005, shortly after I had
graduated from the University of
Pittsburgh. I threw parties regularly
throughout college, and I had gotten in
the habit of making playlists on my mp3
player and hooking it up to the stereo
in our basement. I always thought it
would be much better if everyone could
participate in selecting the music
instead of just me. The question was how
to give everyone a fair chance to make
requests without anyone monopolizing the
music or interfering with anyone elses
selections. This software is my
solution." -Adam Fischman, owner of
Nowtro Software and creator of Nowtro
Jukebox
Q:
What happened to version 1?
Version 1 of Nowtro Jukebox has been
used at various parties in the
Pittsburgh area, but was never available
commercially. Version 2 is the first
version of Nowtro Jukebox available to
the public, and its development was
inspired by the overwhelmingly positive
reception to the original,
non-commercial version of the software.
